This year marks the 9th consecutive year that Kwanzaa Fest will be held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center. Kwanzaa Fest 2000 - More Than Just A Holiday offers three full days of food, folks, and holiday shopping fun. Kwanzaa Fest 2000 boasts over 300 businesses offering a variety of holiday shopping items. The Crystal Palace will be transformed into an Afrocentric Mall. Additionally, there will be a World Music Festival presented in the Spirit of Unity that will feature the music of Africa, Latin America, Caribbean, and Rhythm & Blues.

Once again, our sponsors will join in the celebration. Radio Station WBLS/WLIB co-sponsors the event and will broadcast live, Saturday and Sunday. Another co-sponsor, The Daily News, will produce a Kwanzaa supplement that will be distributed to over 400,000 New Yorkers. Additionally, the KIP Business Report, the fastest growing business publication targeting African American businesses, Carib Life and the Community News will also produce a Kwanzaa supplement.

The recipients of the NGUZO SABA Awards for 1999 were Hon. C. Virginia Fields, Manhattan Borough President; Rev. Al Sharpton, President of the National Action Network; Roy Hastick, President of the Caribbean Chamber of Commerce & Industry; Hon. Ernie Davis, Mayor of Mount Vernon; and Phillip Morrow, President of SOBRO.
